“Each lease situation will be different. If there is farm infrastructure and equipment available in addition to the land, the rent could be more. The overall lease terms and rent though are something you need to discuss with the landowner as you develop your lease. The best relationship is the one that satisfies both parties. Some landowners may have goals of supporting beginning farmers and maintaining a high standard of stewardship for the land and farm assets. In some cases they might offer reduced or below market rents in order to pick the best operator to meet those goals.”
